This is a region covered with lots of great outdoors trails. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. You should count on this backcountry trek taking about 7 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. This backcountry
    hiking trail is a mid length backcountry hiking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes this a very tough great outdoors trail for advanced walkers looking for a good challenge. There is only one trailhead, so you'll be backcountry backpacking it in and back
out. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Blackwell Trail. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 30's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Blackwell Trail temperatures descend to the 10's. Blackwell Trail is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. There are great outdoors trails all over Oregon, and Blackwell Trail is one of them, and it's in Grant County. You'll must go far from La Grande to get to Blackwell Trail, but what a nice place for backcountry hiking  
it is. Backcountry trails like this one here in the Blue Mountains are a really pleasant way to spend quality time in nature. With its 7.6 miles of walking distance it's a mid length hike. Different parts of Blackwell Trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. Not much rain falls here at Blackwell Trail; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain while July is frequently the driest month. This vicinity does get very dry sometimes, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. The total elevation difference for Blackwell Trail is 2,286 feet, and that is about average.

Briefly about the general area:
Get your pulse rate up on the great whitewater of John Day River - North Fork, and Snowshoe Spring is an inspiring spot to stop by during your stay. Yeah, come up here to the Blue Mountains for a splendid time. Don’t forget to take a look at China Meadow since you're here at Blackwell Trail; a short visit to Packsaddle Spring is always worthwhile.
Indian Creek is a beautiful stream that is worth visiting, and you can stay the night at Deerhorn Campground. Take a side tour to Rabbit Creek, and a tremendous location nearby is Bear Gulch. Be careful coming to the Blue Mountains, you might not ever want to return back home again.
You imagine that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Corrigal Spring Campground is a good campground nearby, and do set aside some time for Moon Meadow while you're here at Blackwell Trail.
