Lakes Trail is situated a quite long tour from Ellensburg, but if you're looking for an excellent site to go hiking, this is an excellent pick. The annual precipitation here at Snow Lakes Trail is about average; most of the snow falls through January; July is when it's the driest.
The time needed for this walk is roughly 7.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. There are two trailheads to chose from, one in each end which means you have the option of backcountry backpacking it one way if you have someone to pick you up
at the other end.
Briefly about the general area:
Icicle River RV Park is a great local campground, and there are some splendid whitewater spots on Wenatchee River. Eightmile Campground is a great campground nearby, and as expected, A journey to Tumwater Canyon is always
fun.
Lots of people from Ellensburg come to Snow Lakes Trail, and getting to Snow Creek from Snow Lakes Trail is trouble-free. So much enjoyable stuff to do here at Snow Lakes Trail, too great to be true. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Icicle Creek; why not take a little journey to Toketie Creek while you're here.
