Washington hiking trails - Smith Creek Trail, Northern Cascade Range, Skamania County

   
  You can't spend all your time indoors you need to get out once in a while, and if you happen to be in Skamania County of Washington, Smith Creek Trail is a good local hiking trail for doing a bit of leg stretching. Each one of the many backpacking trails of Washington has its own character. Backpacking trails for backcountry hiking, and backpacking can be found all over Washington; Smith Creek Trail in Skamania County is one of them. Smith Creek Trail is a long trip away from Longview-Kelso, but it is an enjoyable site to backcountry walk. Smith Creek
    Trail has a total elevation difference of 2,573 feet which is a higher than average number. This is a backpacking trail that is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. A visit to Washington is not complete without some trekking. Smith Creek Trail is a mid-length
hiking and backpacking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this hiking trail pleasant for hard core backpackers looking for adventure. Hiking here in the Northern Cascade Range is a really magnificent way to spend quality time in the outdoors. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. For the duration of the summer months at Smith Creek Trail highs are commonly in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Smith  
Creek Trail. Here in the splendid state of Washington backcountry hiking is a wonderful way to spend some time. This hike shouldn't take more than 5.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Being 6.2 miles long it's a mid length walk. This is one of many hiking trails in the surrounding area. Different parts of Smith Creek Trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. There is only one trailhead, so in and out is the way to walk it normally. All the water falling down from the sky makes Smith Creek Trail a wet place; December is the month that gets the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Briefly about the general area:
Smith Creek Trail is in the vicinity of Ape Canyon which is definitely worth taking a look at; Duck Bay is very near and is a fine place to go to. Smith Creek Trail is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Quartz Creek Big Trees Campground is a splendid local campground, and Lewis River - North Fork has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot nearby.
So much entertaining stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range, not sufficient time. A pleasant place to camp here at Smith Creek Trail is Swift Forest Campground; visiting Mount Rainier National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. Do set aside some time for Plains of Abraham since you're here at Smith Creek Trail, and in case you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Muddy River. This is no spot for people who don’t like to have fun.
