Smith Creek Butte Trail is not very near Hood River at all, but many people like to walk here to be near the wilderness. The time needed for this backcountry trek is roughly 4 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Trekking
here in the Northern Cascade Range is the best way to enjoy these hills. For the duration of the months of summer at Smith Creek Butte Trail highs are commonly in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's;
after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Smith Creek Butte Trail dip into the 30's. Smith Creek Butte Trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of hiking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end.

Lava Canyon. There's whitewater on Lewis River - North Fork for all you adrenaline junkies, and a quick visit to Smith Creek is beyond doubt a magnificent idea. Having a magnificent time in the Northern Cascade Range is trouble-free. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody
but if it's for you then we recommend Muddy River, and why not camp at Swift Forest Campground since you're here at Smith Creek Butte Trail.
