    Trail in Skamania County. Different parts of this wilderness trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. This is a neighborhood covered with lots of great outdoors trails. At Smith Creek Butte Trail all
through the long summer days highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's; after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Smith Creek Butte Trail dip into the 30's. Smith Creek Butte Trail has two trailheads, so backcountry trekking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back. Smith Creek Butte Trail is a pretty wet site mostly with a great deal of rainfall; December is when you get the most rain here while July is ordinarily the driest month.  
The total elevation difference for Smith Creek Butte Trail is 1,525 feet which is about average. You should count on this hike taking about 4 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. Smith Creek Butte Trail is a mid-length wilderness hiking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this great outdoors trail wonderful for the average walker looking for an enjoyable adventure. Backcountry trekking here in Washington is a must. These wilderness hiking trails here in the Northern Cascade Range are a really glorious way to spend quality time in the fresh air. Being 4.4 miles long it's an average length wilderness trail. Smith Creek Butte Trail is a long tour away from Hood River, but it is a great sanctuary from the settlement.
