Some parts of this backcountry trail are much higher up than other parts of the backcountry trail, and that means that some parts of the backcountry trail could be very different from other parts of it. This great outdoors hiking trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backcountry hiking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Red Hill Gulch Trail. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Red Hill Gulch Trail. It is very dried up here at Red Hill Gulch Trail usually; most of the rain falls during January, and July is when it's the driest. Being 6.6 miles long it's a mid length walk. Keep in mind that this is a long hiking and backpacking trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies.

Red Hill Gulch Trail is a perfect place to visit for more than one day, Misery Spring Campground is a perfect place to camp nearby, and there are some wonderful whitewater spots on Grande Ronde River. Red Hill Gulch Trail is close to Sheriff Gulch which is unquestionably worth stopping at, and Vogan Spring is an inspiring spot to stop at during your stay. Wickiup Campground is a glorious campground nearby, and don't forget to take a splendid little spree to Dark Canyon Creek.
