Rather far from Ellensburg you come upon McAllister Trail, but backpacking it is magnificent excitement any time. Washington has plenty of splendid wilderness hiking trails, and among these are McAllister Trail in Yakima County. Throughout the summertime at McAllister Trail highs are typically in the 60's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 40's. Throughout the wintertime highs are mostly in the 30's; overnight lows
    all through the wintertime for McAllister Trail tend to be in the 10's. There's not much difference in elevation along the backpacking and hiking trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry trek. Time to get out, and breathe some fresh
air, and McAllister Trail in Yakima County, Washington is a magnificent site for getting out. This backcountry walk shouldn't take more than 3.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. This is a region covered with lots of backpacking trails. McAllister Trail is a one trailhead trail, so you're looking at an in and out trek. Even though this is not a very long wilderness hiking trail it's always great to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. Great outdoors hiking trails  
like this one here in the Northern Cascade Range are a very magnificent way to see these highlands. McAllister Trail has a total elevation difference of 686 feet which is a lower than average number. With its 4.2 miles of walking distance it's a mid length backcountry trek. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. McAllister Trail is a mid-length wilderness trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a good backpacking trail for the average person looking for a good adventure. If you are in Washington during backpacking season you have to go backpacking. McAllister Trail gets a lot of water; all through January this region sees the most snow, and the driest month is July.

Briefly about the general area:
Indian Creek Meadows is a scenic place any time of year; if you came to camp Grey Creek Campground is a fine spot to do that. So many enjoyable things to do here in the Northern Cascade Range, too fine to be true. In the event that you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Tieton River - South Fork. There's so much to do here at McAllister Trail that you need to camp here for a while, White Pass Campground is a nice location for that.
American River has a splendid whitewater paddling spot close by.
