There is only one trailhead, so you'll be backpacking it in and back out. This is a long hiking trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. You should count on this trek taking about 8 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. With its 9.2 miles of walking distance; it's longer than many hiking trails. Greenwater Trail has a total elevation difference of 1,028 feet which is about average. The hiking trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry walk.
