Washington hiking trails - Deer Lake Trail, Olympic Mountains, Clallam County       There are numerous hiking and backpacking trails in Washington, and each one has its own character. Deer Lake Trail is a wet place that gets a great deal of precipitation; through the month of November you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is July. Throughout the summertime months at Deer Lake Trail highs are usually in the 70's; the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, typically in the 40's. There is only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out trek. Deer Lake Trail is not very near Port Angeles at all, but backpacking it is great merriment any time. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in place. Some parts of this trail are much higher up than other parts of the trail, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. This is one of many great outdoors trails in the   surrounding area. This backcountry hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 1,835 feet which is an average number. The time needed for this backcountry walk is roughly 6 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Being 6.8 miles long it's a mid length hike. Here in Washington backcountry hiking is something that is always fun to do. Deer Lake Trail is a mid-length backpacking and hiking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a good great outdoors trail for experienced backcountry trekkers in pleasant shape. Now this hiking trail is pretty long, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Briefly about the general area: You definitely ought to go for the Olympic Mountains. Don't forget to take a fine little trip to Canyon Creek. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Deer Lake Trail has to offer, you can camp at Soleduck Campground. Lyre River has a good whitewater paddling spot nearby; there are plenty of people from Port Angeles here at Deer Lake Trail. Man, is there plenty of exciting things to do in the Olympic Mountains. Seven Lakes Basin is a good location to stretch your legs a bit.
