Trail is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in spot. Cowlitz Trail sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month with most of the snow is January; July is the month with the least moisture.

about the general area: If you come at the right time of year, Summit Creek offers some great whitewater; while you're here, you might as well stop at Carlton Pass. Log Spring is a pretty site to check out while you're at Cowlitz Trail, and a wooded vicinity nearby is Gifford
Pinchot National Forest. Just can't get enough of the Northern Cascade Range. A short tour to Fish Ladder Falls is always worthwhile; do schedule some time to go to Cortright Point if you have a chance. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors exciting things the area
near Cowlitz Trail has to offer. There's so much to do here at Cowlitz Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Knuppenburg Lake Campground is a delightful place for that, and why not a little side trip to Pony Creek. And if that's not enough there's a heap more fun stuff
to do in the Northern Cascade Range. There are some good whitewater spots on Cowlitz River - Clear Fork. Allred Creek is a great place to stop by. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Cowlitz Trail has to offer, you can camp at Soda Springs Campground.
