Way are much higher up than other parts of the trail, and that means that some parts of the trail could be very different from other parts of it. This backcountry hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 1,608 feet, and that is about average. This walk shouldn't take more
than 7.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Cougar Way is a mid-length backcountry hiking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a tremendous backcountry trail for
experienced walkers in splendid shape. Cougar Way typically gets a good deal of rain; throughout the month of December you get the most snow around here, and the driest month is July.
Briefly about the general area: Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even
more exciting things to do here in the Northern Cascade Range. Lots of folks from Hood River come to Cougar Way; Big Trench is a stunning spot any time of year. A pleasant journey to South Prairie is a tremendous way to spend an afternoon; there are some brilliant whitewater spots
on White Salmon River. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the area close to Cougar Way has to offer. South Fork Berry Creek is a stream that you may run into while here. If you come at the right time of year, Little White Salmon River offers some
good whitewater, and why not camp at Forlorn Lakes Campground while you're here at Cougar Way. North Fork Berry Creek flows through this area, and camping is available at Ice Cave Campground.
