Washington hiking trails - Cougar Way, Northern Cascade Range, Skamania County

   
  There are numerous wilderness hiking trails in Washington, and each one is worth trekking. You'll have to go far from Hood River to get to Cougar Way, but it is a really great backpacking trail. Backcountry hiking here in Washington is something that is always fun to do. The length of Cougar Way is about average with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this backpacking and hiking trail fine for hard core backpackers looking for adventure. Keep in mind that this is a long great outdoors hiking trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies.
    The pretty great outdoors hiking trails of the Northern Cascade Range are a very perfect way to see these summits. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. This is a region covered with lots of backpacking and hiking trails. Washington is a good outdoors state. There
are many good wilderness hiking trails in Washington; Cougar Way in Skamania County is one of them. Cougar Way is a quite wet location typically with a good deal of rainfall; December is the wettest month with most snow while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Being 8.2 miles long it's a mid length backcountry trek. Some parts of this wilderness trail are much higher up than other parts of the wilderness trail, and that means that some parts of the wilderness trail could be very different from other parts of it. The total elevation difference  
for this backcountry hiking trail is 1,608 feet, and that is about average. High temperatures at Cougar Way all through the months of summer are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Cougar Way. Cougar Way is a one trailhead backcountry hiking trail, so in and out is the way to walk it normally. You should count on this backcountry hike taking about 7.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. We all need to get out in the wilderness once in a while, and Cougar Way in Skamania County, Washington is a really great place to spend some time.

You just can't envision the amount of outdoors enjoyable things the area in the vicinity of Cougar Way has to offer. Ice Cave Campground is a fine local campground. Just can't get enough of the Northern Cascade Range. Get soaked paddling on Little White Salmon River, and Big Trench is a striking location any time of year.
North Fork Berry Creek is a glorious location to check out, and if you're visiting from Hood River, you won't be the only one. Visit South Fork Berry Creek if you're here at Cougar Way; a pleasant journey to South Prairie is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Forlorn Lakes Campground is a splendid campground nearby, and soar down the rapids of White Salmon River in a kayak.
