Even though this is not a very long great outdoors hiking trail it's always tremendous to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. This backpacking trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backcountry trekking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. At parts of the year this area sees very little rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. You spend the whole hike in roughly the same elevation zone, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole great outdoors trail. You should count on this backcountry walk taking about 4.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Being 5 miles long it's an average length great outdoors trail.
