This wilderness trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backcountry hiking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. Now this backcountry hiking trail is pretty long, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. With its 62 miles of walking distance; it's a long backpacking and hiking trail. This wilderness trail has a total elevation difference of 4,759 feet which is higher than average. This hike should take you about 9.5 days, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed. Different parts of American Ridge Trail are at very different elevations which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the backpacking and hiking trail.
