If you came to camp Pleasant Valley Campground is a splendid site to do that, and Bumping River has a wonderful whitewater paddling spot nearby. Getting to Boulder Creek from American Ridge Trail is easy, and don't leave American Ridge Trail without first paying a visit to Soda Springs.
