This is a one trailhead backpacking and hiking trail, so you'll be hiking it in and back out. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in place. Trails like  
this one here in the Central Cascade Range are a brilliant way to explore these peaks. Of course, this is an overnight walk, 2 days normally, so it's a glorious thing if your backpack is big enough to do the job. Each wilderness trail in Oregon has its own character. Winchester Trail has a total elevation difference of 1,421 feet, and that is about average. With its 14.6 miles of walking distance; it's a long backcountry hiking trail. All through the summer months here at Winchester Trail, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Winchester Trail. Backpacking here in Oregon is a must.

Places like Cupit Mary Meadow are tremendous to take a look at, and camping is available at Shelter Cove Resort.
This river is so wonderful. A quick journey to Skookum Creek next to Winchester Trail is a wonderful idea; a magnificent place is Box Canyon. Waldo Meadows is a striking location any time of year, and in the event that you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on McKenzie River - South Fork. Lillian Falls is always fun to check out, and a delightful place to camp here at Winchester Trail is Twin Springs Campground.
You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool things in the Central Cascade Range. Whitewater paddling is magnificent on Horse Creek.
