Being 5.6 miles long it's an average length great outdoors hiking trail. Even though this is not a very long backpacking trail you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. This area does get very dry sometimes, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. You should count on this walk taking about 5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. There's not much difference in elevation along the great outdoors hiking trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry hike.
