  We all need to get out in the great outdoors once in a while, and Welch Creek Trail in Grant County, Oregon is the great outdoors at its best. Welch Creek Trail is located a pretty long trip from Pendleton-Hermiston, but it is one of many tremendous wilderness hiking trails in this vicinity. This area does get very dry sometimes, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. This
    wilderness hiking trail has only one trailhead, so you'll be backcountry backpacking it in and back out. Oregon is a nice spot for outdoors people. If you happen to be in Oregon, why not go backpacking, it is the brilliant thing to do. Being 2.8 miles long it's a shorter type backcountry
walk. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in location. Welch Creek Trail is not that long but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. This hiking and backpacking trail is on the short side with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a fine great outdoors hiking trail for the average person looking for a fine adventure. The total elevation difference for this wilderness hiking trail is 422 feet which is a lower than average number. Through the months of summer at Welch Creek  
Trail temperatures are mostly in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 30's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Welch Creek Trail. You should count on this walk taking about 2.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Welch Creek Trail is ordinarily a reasonably dry place; through November this area sees the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The hiking and backpacking trails of the Blue Mountains are a very brilliant way to see these mountains. This is just one of a large number of great outdoors hiking trails in this region. There's not much difference in elevation along the wilderness hiking trail which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. There are plenty of hiking trails in Oregon; each one of them has its own character.

Briefly about the general area:
This river is so perfect. Man, is there a lot of cool stuff to do in the Blue Mountains. There's whitewater on John Day River - North Fork for all you adrenaline kick people, and camping is available at Lehman Hot Springs.
A brilliant place to camp here at Welch Creek Trail is Trough Creek Campground; do put some time aside to spend at Kelsay Spring while you're here at Welch Creek Trail.
