I've seen the Volcano Trail on old maps but I didn't know it still existed. Part of it has been bypassed by logging roads. I believe it went to the old blowout shelter and the suspension bridge that is still there. Says J. D. Adams
This hiking and backpacking trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backpacking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. The total elevation difference for Volcano Trail is 1,090 feet, and that is about average. This backpacking trail is not that long but it's always tremendous to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. You should count on this backcountry hike taking about 2.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. There's not much difference in elevation along Volcano Trail which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. With its 2.8 miles of walking distance it's a short hiking and backpacking trail.
