This hiking trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backpacking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. The total elevation difference for Thunder Mountain Trail is 3,377 feet, and that is higher than average. You should count on this hike taking about 8 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. This is a long trail, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. This trail sometimes gets very dry, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. Some parts of Thunder Mountain Trail are much higher up than other parts of the wilderness trail which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the wilderness trail. With its 9.2 miles of walking distance; it's a long wilderness trail.
