The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Pine Creek Trail dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. Backpacking here in the Blue Mountains is a good way to explore these mountains. Many miles from the least distant town you have Pine Creek Trail, and
backcountry trekking is such an enjoyable thing to do, and this is a perfect place to do that. Pine Creek Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole great outdoors trail.
Briefly about the
general area: Buckhorn Meadow is right here at Pine Creek Trail; a tour to Pine Creek Trail wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Buckhorn Spring. Getting to West Fork Indian Creek from Pine Creek Trail is uncomplicated. There's so much to do here at Pine Creek Trail
that you need to camp here for a while, Indian Springs Campground is a good spot for that. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Blue Mountains. Everybody loves Wildcat Basin; why not take a little journey to East Fork Indian Creek while you're here. And if that's not sufficient,
there's plenty more to do near Pine Creek Trail. If you came to camp Ray Cole Campground is a perfect place to do that. There's a brilliant forest near Pine Creek Trail called Malheur National Forest; a short spree to Wildcat Spring is always worthwhile.
