This is a one trailhead hiking trail, so in and out is the way to backcountry hike it normally. This hiking trail goes through some very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. Now, this is roughly a 2.5-day walk, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed. This is a long wilderness hiking trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Mountain Lakes Trail has a total elevation difference of 2,862 feet which is higher than average. Being 17.2 miles long; it's considered a longer backcountry trek. At parts of the year this neighborhood sees very little rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire.
