The total elevation difference for this hiking trail is 1,585 feet, and that is about average. Keep in mind that this is a long hiking trail, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. Lightening Spring Trail is a mid-length great outdoors hiking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a wonderful backcountry hiking trail for experienced trekkers in great shape. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping.

Put some time aside to spend at Red Cone Spring since you're here at Lightening Spring Trail, and a good spot to stop by is Llaos Hallway. So much fun stuff in the Southern Cascade Range, just inspiring.
Take a side tour to Dutton Creek, and don't forget to explore Discovery Point while you're here. It's always tremendous to take a look at Lightning Spring, and hey, Trapper Creek is a great local stream. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a glorious time here at Lightening Spring Trail. There's so much to do here at Lightening Spring Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Diamond Lake RV Park is a pleasant location for that. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Lightening Spring Trail has to offer, you can camp at Mazama Campground.
Life's too short to enjoy all the cool stuff in the Southern Cascade Range. All our national parks are good places to stop by, and Crater Lake National Park is no exception, and the great folks of Klamath Falls like to hang out close by.
