This is a one trailhead backcountry trail, so you'll be trekking it in and back out. This is a great outdoors trail that is quite long, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. Different parts of Lava Trail are at very different elevations, and that means that some parts of the backcountry trail could be very different from other parts of it. This backcountry trek shouldn't take more than 9 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that.
