Keep in mind that this is a long backcountry hiking trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Island Meadow Trail is a wet place that gets much rainfall; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is July. You should count on this hike taking about 7.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. This is one of many wilderness hiking trails in the surrounding area. With its 9 miles of walking distance it's a mid length walk. This is a one trailhead backpacking and hiking trail, so you're looking at an in and out backcountry walk.

Wright Spring is an inspiring place to explore during your stay; Island Meadow Trail is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Upper Campground is a pleasant local campground. You think that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. There's whitewater on Horse Creek for all you adrenaline kick people. There's so much to do here at Island Meadow Trail that you need to camp here for a while, East Lake Resort and RV Parks is a glorious place for that.
Having a good time in the Central Cascade Range is simple. Do set aside some time for Island Meadow while you're here at Island Meadow Trail, and Quinn Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth stopping at. But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Elk Lake Springs, and you can run the rapids of Deschutes River.
While you're here at Island Meadow Trail it's a good idea to take a look at Reserve Meadow, and there's some flowing water close by, Sink Creek is a stream you can visit during your stay.
