Keep in mind that this is a long hiking trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is July. The pretty backpacking trails of the Central Cascade Range are the best way to enjoy these highlands. With its 8.2 miles of walking distance it's a mid length walk. This area does get very dry sometimes, so do check for
current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. For the duration of the warm months highs here at Island Lake Trail get into the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's, and
all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Island Lake Trail temperatures fall to the 20's. You spend the whole walk in roughly the same elevation zone, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your walk. This part of Oregon is always a diversion to go
to during trekking season.
Briefly about the general area: Deer Creek is close to Island Lake Trail and is always a pleasure to pop by, and Island Lake Trail is a good place to visit for more than one day, Twin Springs Campground is a good place to camp nearby. Yep,
outdoors cool things to do are in fact abundant here at Island Lake Trail. Shelter Cove Resort is a great local campground, and Lillian Falls is a good local attraction. And if that's not enough there's loads more fun stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range. Do schedule some
time to explore Klovdahl Bay in close proximity to Island Lake Trail if you have a chance; if you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Salt Creek. Hills Creek is a wonderful whitewater spot next to Island Lake Trail, and there's some flowing
water close by, Bechel Creek is a stream you can take a look at while you're here. Just can't get enough of the Central Cascade Range. Pengra Pass is a magnificent spot to spend some time at, and Pothole Meadow is a good place to stretch your legs a bit. Places like Riggs Meadow are splendid to explore, and Salt Creek Falls is a lovely location to go to while you're at Island Lake Trail.
