in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Flag Mountain Trail. The total elevation difference for this backcountry trail is 924 feet, and that is lower than average. There's not much difference in elevation along Flag Mountain Trail which means the conditions are
about the same from start to finish. The time needed for this trek is roughly 2.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Backcountry hiking here in the Central Cascade Range is a very glorious way to see these mountains.
Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. Flag Mountain Trail has two trailheads, so backcountry backpacking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back.
Briefly about the general area: There's no way anybody can get
bored here in the Central Cascade Range. Don't forget to take a great little journey to Fern Creek, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Sandy River. Camping is available at Bighorn Campground, and float down the rapids of Zigzag River in a kayak. Camping at Pioneer Tollgate Campground is always a great experience, and unsurprisingly Camp Creek is a picturesque stream that is worth a visit.
