This area does get very dry sometimes, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. You should count on this trek taking about 8 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Fish Lake Trail is 9 miles long it's a mid length backcountry walk. This wilderness hiking trail has only one trailhead, so in and out is the way to trek it normally. Keep in mind that this is a long hiking trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. Some parts of Fish Lake Trail are much higher up than other parts of the trail which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the trail.
