There is only one trailhead, so in and out is the way to backcountry hike it normally. The total elevation difference for this hiking and backpacking trail is 479 feet which is lower than average. This is not a very long hiking and backpacking trail but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. Being 2.8 miles long it's shorter than many great outdoors trails. You should count on this trek taking about 2.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. There's not much difference in elevation along East Mountain Trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your walk.
