The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Dead End Trail tend to be in the 20's. You'll need to go far from Medford to get to Dead End Trail, but it is an outstanding retreat from the town. This great outdoors hiking trail is not that long but it's always glorious to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. You should count on this backcountry trek taking about 4.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. There's not much difference in elevation along Dead End Trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry hike.

Put some time aside to spend at Porcupine Spring since you're here at Dead End Trail, and everybody loves Parker Meadow. Saddle Campground is a magnificent campground nearby, and North Fork Fourbit Creek is right next door to Dead End Trail and is always a diversion to stop at.
A trip to Bourbon Spring will fill your spirit with wonderful feelings, and Beaver Fork is one of the streams nearby that might be worth visiting. All year is a brilliant time in the Southern Cascade Range if you go for the outdoors. Willow Lake Resort is a splendid local campground, and Sheep Camp Glades is a fine spot. And if that's not enough, there's a load more to do in close proximity to Dead End Trail.
