trip separates Medford from Crater Trail, but backcountry hiking is such a fun thing to do, and this is a fine place to do that. Being 4.4 miles long it's a mid length hike. Crater Trail gets a typical amount of precipitation; November is the wettest month with most rain, and July
meanwhile is the driest month. The delightful backcountry trails of the Southern Cascade Range are a really perfect way to spend quality time in the fresh air. Crater Trail goes through some very different elevations, and that means that some parts of the backpacking trail could
be very different from other parts of it. Summer at Crater Trail arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are regularly in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at
Crater Trail temperatures drop to the 20's.
Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Southern Cascade Range, you might not ever want to go home again. Stay the night at Saddle Campground. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Crater Trail
has to offer, you can camp at Upper South Fork Campground, and Salt Fork Fourbit Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth a visit.
