The total elevation difference for this great outdoors trail is 2,571 feet which is a higher than average number. You should count on this backcountry trek taking about 4 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Crater Trail is a one trailhead great outdoors trail, so you'll be hiking it in and back out. At parts of the year this area sees very little rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. With its 4.4 miles of walking distance it's a mid length backcountry hike. Different parts of Crater Trail are at very different elevations, and that means that some parts of the hiking trail could be very different from other parts of it. Even though this is not a very long wilderness hiking trail it's always tremendous to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen.
