Briefly about the general area: Coming to this river is always a good idea. Gregg Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth stopping at; do schedule some time to pop by Bloody Point if you have a chance. Stay the night at Tombstone
Prairie Campground, and a trip to McNabb Falls will fill your soul with nice feelings. Canal Creek has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot nearby, and a pleasant trip to Little Meadows is a splendid way to spend an afternoon. Life's too short to enjoy all the cool stuff in
the Central Cascade Range. West Fork McQuade Creek is next to Chimney Peak Trail and is always a delight to go to, and Red Heifer Pass is a good place to stop by. So much entertaining stuff in the Central Cascade Range, just fantastic. What a place this is for outdoors folks.
Detroit Lake State Park is a perfect campground here, and in the event that you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Santiam River - Middle.
