Oregon hiking trails - Chico Trail, Wallowa County

   
  A long drive separates Lewiston from Chico Trail, but when you backcountry trek it you're always having a glorious time. A visit to Oregon is not complete without some backpacking. Spending too much time indoors got you down? No problem, Chico Trail in Wallowa County, Oregon is a really perfect location to spend some time. This is a wilderness trail that is quite long, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Chico Trail is 15.4 miles long; it's longer than many wilderness hiking trails. Different
    parts of Chico Trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. This backpacking and hiking trail has two trailheads, so trekking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back. The number of hiking
trails in this area is not very high. At parts of the year this neighborhood sees very little rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. Not much precipitation falls here at Chico Trail; through December this region sees the most snow, and July is when it's the driest. This walk should take you about 2.5 days, so it's a great thing if your backpack is big enough to do the job. Chico Trail is a very long backpacking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes this a very  
tough hiking trail for advanced backcountry hikers looking for a perfect challenge. Going for a backcountry walk here in Oregon is the pleasant thing to do. This backpacking and hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 1,654 feet which is about average. There are plenty of backcountry hiking trails in Oregon; each one of them has its own unique prettiness. Great backcountry hiking trails in Oregon are in abundance, and one of those is Chico Trail in Wallowa County. During the summertime at Chico Trail temperatures are commonly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 30's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Chico Trail sink into the 10's.

What a site this is for outdoors folks. There's so much to do here at Chico Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Out Post RV Park is a great location for that. A pleasant spree to Braham Meadows is a good way to spend an afternoon; you can stay the night at Kirkland Campground.
Double Spring is a glorious local attraction, and Little Elk Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth taking a look at. Some nearby water includes Davis Creek, and get dripping wet paddling on Grande Ronde River. A splendid spot near Chico Trail is Nells Canyon, and do put some time aside to spend at Elk Spring while you're here at Chico Trail.
