The total elevation difference for this wilderness hiking trail is 560 feet, and that is lower than average. There are two trailheads to chose from, one in each end, so if you can get a ride from someone, you can backcountry hike it just one way. Brown Mountain Trail is 6.6 miles long it's a mid length backcountry trek. This trek shouldn't take more than 5.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. There's not much difference in elevation along Brown Mountain Trail which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. This backpacking trail sometimes gets very dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. This is a backpacking trail that is quite long, so don't forget to pack enough supplies.
