This is a two-ended great outdoors hiking trail with two trailheads, so backpacking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back. This region does get very dry sometimes, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. This is not a very long backpacking trail but it's always nice to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. The time needed for this walk is roughly 2 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. You spend the whole trek in roughly the same elevation zone which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. With its 2.2 miles of walking distance it's shorter than many hiking trails. The total elevation difference for Althouse Trail is 369 feet which is lower than average.
