Hawaii hiking trails - Waipunalei Trail, Hawaii County

   
  This part of Hawaii is always a pleasure to pop by during backcountry hiking season. Hawaii has plenty of great great outdoors trails; Waipunalei Trail in Hawaii County is one of them. Going for a backcountry walk here in Hawaii is something that is always fun to do. Throughout the warm days of summer here at Waipunalei Trail, high temperatures usually reach the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. For the period of the wintertime highs are frequently in the 70's, and nighttime lows at Waipunalei Trail through the wintertime frequently
    sink into the 60's. This backcountry walk shouldn't take more than 9 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. There are not too many trails in this area. The high level of rain makes Waipunalei Trail a quite wet spot; the month
of April is the wettest with most of the rain; June meanwhile is the driest month. This wilderness trail is a very long wilderness trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this trail nice for hard core backpackers looking for adventure. This is a two-ended hiking trail with two trailheads, so backpacking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back. Spending too much time indoors got you down? No problem, if you happen to be in Hawaii County of Hawaii, Waipunalei Trail is a nice local wilderness hiking trail for doing  
a bit of leg stretching. Waipunalei Trail goes through some very different elevations which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the great outdoors hiking trail. Every Hawaii great outdoors trail is different from the others. The total elevation difference for Waipunalei Trail is 3,314 feet, and that is higher than average. Waipunalei Trail is 9.6 miles long; it's longer than many great outdoors hiking trails. This is a hiking trail that is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. Rather far from Hilo you bump into Waipunalei Trail, but if you're looking for a nice place to go backcountry hiking, this is a nice selection. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go.

Waipunalei Trail is a location with many visitors from Hilo; a forest close by is Manowaialee Forest Reserve. Waipunalei Stream is a delightful local stream, and Alenaio Gulch is another great place to explore nearby.
