Hawaii hiking trails - Waipunalei Trail, Hawaii County

   
  When you're here in Hawaii hiking along one of its wilderness hiking trails never gets boring. Every single Hawaii wilderness hiking trail is worth hiking. If you are in Hawaii during backcountry backpacking season you have to go backcountry backpacking. This is one of a very small number of hiking trails in this region. Hitting the hiking trails is always an enjoyable thing to do, and Waipunalei Trail in Hawaii County, Hawaii is an excellent spot to go. This hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 3,314 feet, and that is higher than average.
    All through the summertime months at Waipunalei Trail temperatures are mostly in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 70's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures
at Waipunalei Trail sink into the 60's. Waipunalei Trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of backcountry trekking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. Waipunalei Trail is a long trip away from Hilo, but when you spend some time backcountry trekking here you will feel like a whole new person. Waipunalei Trail is 9.6 miles long; it's considered a longer backcountry walk. Waipunalei Trail is a very long backpacking and hiking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a fine hiking trail for experienced  
walkers in delightful shape. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. This backcountry hike shouldn't take more than 9 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. All the water falling down from the sky makes Waipunalei Trail a wet site; April is when you get the most rain here, and June on the other hand is the driest. This is a long hiking trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Different parts of this hiking and backpacking trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. There are many tremendous wilderness hiking trails in Hawaii, and Waipunalei Trail is one of them, and it's in Hawaii County.

Briefly about the general area:
Do schedule some time to go to Nahiwa Point close to Waipunalei Trail if you have a chance, and Waipunalei Stream is one of the streams close by that might be worth visiting. Since you're here at Waipunalei Trail why not visit Alenaio Gulch, and not far from here you can enjoy the trees of Manowaialee Forest Reserve.
