Kawilinau is a good place to stretch your legs a bit, and Sliding Sands Trail is not far at all from Kahului-Wailuku. A fine beach near Sliding Sands Trail is Waipu; Huakini Bay is in the neighborhood and always great to take a look at. A nice forest in the vicinity of Sliding Sands Trail is Kahikinui Forest Reserve, and you can stay the night at Oheo Campground.
