Puna Ka Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry trek. This hike should take you about 3 days, so
    it's a brilliant thing if your backpack is big enough to do the job. Puna Ka Trail usually gets much rainfall; through March this vicinity sees the most rain; the driest of the months is June. Each backpacking trail in Hawaii is worth backpacking. Puna Ka Trail has only one trailhead,
so in and out is the way to trek it normally. The warmest time of the year at Puna Ka Trail comes with high temperatures in the 70's; the overnight is a little colder of course, usually in the 50's. Through the wintertime this spot gets highs in the 60's while the cold winter nights at Puna Ka Trail are in the 40's. Puna Ka Trail is a very long great outdoors trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this a very tough backpacking trail for advanced backcountry walkers looking for a fine challenge. Here in the good state of Hawaii backpacking  
never gets boring. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Relatively far from Hilo you encounter Puna Ka Trail, but backcountry trekking it is good pleasure any time. Now this wilderness trail is pretty long, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. With its 20.8 miles of walking distance; it's a long great outdoors trail. The total elevation difference for Puna Ka Trail is 607 feet which is lower than average. This is an area covered with lots of backpacking trails.

Don't miss out on a tour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park since you're here at Puna Ka Trail, and Ka Desert is right here at Puna Ka Trail. If you came for an overnight stay Nmakanipaio Campground is a splendid spot to camp, and a great site to stop by close by is Kahele.
Taking a little visit to close by pua Point is a good idea, and Naulu Forest is a brilliant local forest.
