Here in Hawaii backcountry trekking is so much fun. Being 3.6 miles long it's a short wilderness trail. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Puako-Waimea Trail. All through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 70's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 70's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Puako-Waimea Trail plunge into the 60's. Even though
    this is not a very long great outdoors trail it's always great to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in location. There are not too many backcountry hiking trails in this region. Sometimes
this great outdoors trail gets really dry, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. Hawaii has plenty of delightful wilderness hiking trails, and one of these is Puako-Waimea Trail in Hawaii County. Puako-Waimea Trail has a total elevation difference of 164 feet which is a lower than average number. It is very dry here at Puako-Waimea Trail ordinarily; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month is July. The time needed for this backcountry walk is roughly 3 hours,  
but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Puako-Waimea Trail has only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out backcountry walk. Puako-Waimea Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. Puako-Waimea Trail is a very short backpacking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a fine backcountry hiking trail for the average person looking for a fine adventure. There are plenty of wilderness hiking trails in Hawaii; each one of them is pretty in its own way. A long tour separates Hilo from Puako-Waimea Trail, but when you walk it you're always having a glorious time.

Keanuiomano Stream is a good spot to visit, and Ohaiula Beach is rather nearby if you're in a beach type of mood. Here at Puako-Waimea Trail you'll possibly meet some people from Hilo, and do explore Waikoloa Stream since you're here at Puako-Waimea Trail.
Pauahi Gulch is a great location to have a look at nearby; if you want to hit the beach, Kaluhikaa Beach is around here.
