Hawaii hiking trails - Maunaiki Trail, Hawaii County

Not much rainfall falls here at Maunaiki Trail; most of the rain falls during January, and the driest of the months is June. The number of great outdoors hiking trails in this region is not
    very high. The total elevation difference for Maunaiki Trail is 145 feet, and that is lower than average. We all need to get out in the fresh air once in a while, and Maunaiki Trail in Hawaii County, Hawaii is just the spot. This wilderness trail is a very short wilderness trail
having an average number of uphill miles which makes this great outdoors hiking trail splendid for the average backcountry trekker looking for an enjoyable adventure. Hawaii has plenty of good hiking trails, and Maunaiki Trail in Hawaii County is one of them. Summertime highs at Maunaiki Trail regularly tend to be in the 50's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 30's. For the duration of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and night lows throughout the winter for Maunaiki Trail tend to be in the 30's. The backpacking trail stays  
roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. Every Hawaii hiking trail has its own character. You should count on this hike taking about 3.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. There is only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out trek. With its 3.8 miles of walking distance it's a short backpacking trail. At parts of the year this vicinity sees very little rain, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out.

You'll need more than a day to explore everything Maunaiki Trail has to offer, you can camp at Nmakanipaio Campground, and visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet.
