This area does get very dry sometimes, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. Maunaiki Trail has only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out trek. Maunaiki Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. With its 3.8 miles of walking distance it's a short great outdoors hiking trail. Maunaiki Trail is not that long but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. You should count on this backcountry walk taking about 3.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster.
