Hawaii hiking trails - Mauna Loa Trail, Hawaii County       This part of Hawaii is always a joy to check out during trekking season. Mauna Loa Trail is a long tour away from Hilo, but you always have a good time when you're backcountry hiking along it. Going for a walk here in Hawaii is the perfect thing to do. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 70's, and nighttime lows at Mauna Loa Trail through the wintertime usually drop into the 50's. Mauna Loa Trail has only one trailhead, so you'll be backpacking it in and back out. This is a great outdoors hiking trail that is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. Visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet, and a pleasant journey to Keakapulu Flat is a fine way to spend an afternoon. If you're here, you might as well visit Klauea Gulch; do take some time to visit Mauna Loa Forest Reserve if you're here.
