are in the 80's at Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. During the wintertime highs are generally in the 70's, and night lows in the 60's for Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail. There are so many hiking trails in this vicinity. A lengthy trip divides Hilo from Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail, but it's one of those places where backcountry trekking is good. Being 14 miles long; it's considered a longer hike. This is a long great outdoors trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Of course, this is an overnight backcountry hike, 2 days  
normally, so better have big backpack to fit all the stuff you need. This backcountry trail has a total elevation difference of 3,631 feet, and that is higher than average. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in place. Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail is a great outdoors hiking trail of great length with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it an excellent hiking trail for experienced hikers in nice shape. Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail is a two ended backcountry trail with two trailheads, so backcountry trekking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back.

The trees of Mauna Kea Forest Reserve are a good source of shade on hot summer days, and a short visit to Waih Spring is always worthwhile. You might want to pay a visit to N Gulch since you're here at Mauna Kea Umikoa Trail.
