| | in roughly the same elevation zone, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your walk. Here in the tremendous state of Hawaii backpacking is a magnificent idea. Even though this is not a very long great outdoors trail it's always fine to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. This is one of a very small number of hiking trails in this region. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Maulua Trail; the overnight is fairly cooler of course, generally in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs | |

are in the 70's with winter lows in the 60's overnight here at Maulua Trail. This backcountry trek shouldn't take more than 1.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Maulua Trail has two trailheads, so if you can get a ride from someone, you
can backcountry trek it just one way. The total elevation difference for Maulua Trail is 89 feet, and that is lower than average. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. You'll need to go far from Hilo to get to Maulua Trail, but It's always cool to hike here.
