It's a lengthy trip from Hilo to Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail, but backcountry trekking is such a fun thing to do, and this is a fine spot to do that. Backcountry backpacking in Hawaii is a good idea. High temperatures at Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail through the months of summer are in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 70's. All through the winter this spot gets highs in the 70's; winter nights come with lows
    in the 60's to Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail. This is a great outdoors trail that is quite long, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Every Hawaii backpacking and hiking trail has something unique to offer. Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail gets a common amount of rain; the month with most of
the rain is January, and the driest month is September. Being 8.8 miles long it's an average length wilderness hiking trail. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. The wilderness hiking trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. This backcountry hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 385 feet which is a lower than average number. The time needed for this backcountry hike is roughly 8 hours, but you never know stuff  
could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Alright, enough of spending all this time inside a building, time to get out, and Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail in Hawaii County, Hawaii is a fine spot for getting out. Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail is a normal length great outdoors trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a magnificent backcountry trail for experienced backcountry trekkers in magnificent shape. As long as you like the fresh air you will like Hawaii. This is one of a very small number of backcountry trails in this neighborhood. This backcountry hiking trail has only one trailhead, so you'll be hiking it in and back out.

Briefly about the general area:
A journey to Keanapakulua Falls will fill your spirit with good feelings; a visit to Wawaion Bay is always a perfect idea. Time spent at Kkea Beach right next door to Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail is always good, and Palapalai Gulch is definitely a great location to explore.
