Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole backpacking and hiking trail. This backpacking and hiking trail has only one trailhead, so in and out is the way to trek it normally. Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail is not very close to Hilo at all, but many people
    like to walk here to be close to the fresh air. Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail is a mid-length backpacking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a glorious wilderness hiking trail for experienced backcountry hikers in tremendous shape. There are many splendid
hiking trails in Hawaii, and among these are Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail in Hawaii County. Hey, time for a walk don’t you think? Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail in Hawaii County, Hawaii is a tremendous place for getting out. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. The number of wilderness hiking trails in this neighborhood is not very high. This backpacking and hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 385 feet which is a lower than average number. Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail gets a normal amount of annual precipitation; the month of January is the  
wettest with most of the rain, and September is when it's the driest. Through the summertime months at Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail highs are typically in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 70's; nighttime lows at Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail through the winter generally drop into the 60's. With its 8.8 miles of walking distance it's an average length backpacking and hiking trail. This is a long backpacking trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. You should count on this backcountry walk taking about 8 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster.

Briefly about the general area:
Wawaion Bay is in close proximity to Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail and is a wonderful place to take a look at; a great spot to check out is Palapalai Gulch. Beaches are nice; and Kkea Beach right next door to Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail is no exception, and do put some time aside to spend at Keanapakulua Falls while you're here at Kawaihae-Puu Hue Trail.
