Hawaii hiking trails - Kaupo Trail, Maui County       This part of Hawaii has a nice deal of available outdoors endeavors. Ok, you've been cooped up too long, time to get out in the outdoors a bit, and Kaupo Trail in Maui County, Hawaii is a great location for getting out. Wilderness hiking trails are great and plentiful in Hawaii; Kaupo Trail in Maui County is one of them. Through the summertime highs here at Kaupo Trail get into the 80's while overnight lows are generally in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 70's; overnight lows throughout the wintertime for Kaupo Trail tend to     be in the 60's. This wilderness hiking trail is not that long but it's always wonderful to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. This trail has a total elevation difference of 6,387 feet, and that is higher than average. Kaupo Trail sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is March, and June is when it's the driest. You'll have to go far from Kahului-Wailuku to get to Kaupo Trail, but it is a great hiking trail. Backcountry backpacking in Hawaii never gets boring. The length of this wilderness hiking trail is about average having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a great backpacking and hiking trail for the average person looking for a great adventure. With its 4.4 miles of walking distance it's a mid length backcountry walk. Different parts of this backpacking and   hiking trail are at very different elevations which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the backpacking and hiking trail. There are plenty of wilderness trails in Hawaii; each one of them is different from the others. There are not too many backpacking and hiking trails in this area. This backcountry trek shouldn't take more than 4 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. Kaupo Trail has only one trailhead, so you'll be backpacking it in and back out. Briefly about the general area: Keaku Valley is a glorious place, and if you came for an overnight stay Hosmer Grove Campground is a delightful place to camp. Healani Stream is a good site to take a look at, and Kahualau Gulch is another delightful site to visit close by. On a gorgeous day you can have a look at Mokulau Beach in close proximity to Kaupo Trail, and of course, all our national parks are great places to go to and Haleakala National Park is no exception. Places like Manawainui Valley are pleasant to stop by; camping is available at Oheo Campground. Man, is there plenty of cool things to do in the neighborhood of Kaupo Trail. Put some time aside to spend at Paanene Spring since you're here at Kaupo Trail; a journey to Waipu is always a nice idea.
