The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Kau Desert Trail temperatures dip to the 30's. Sometimes this hiking and backpacking trail gets really dry, so don’t forget to check  
for any current fire restrictions before you go. The total elevation difference for Kau Desert Trail is 2,266 feet which is about average. This is a two-ended great outdoors trail with two trailheads, so backpacking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back. Now, this is roughly a 1.5-day backcountry walk, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed. Kau Desert Trail is quite long, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Kau Desert Trail is a very long hiking and backpacking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this hiking and backpacking trail nice for hard core backpackers looking for adventure.

A spree to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is worthwhile, and you must explore Kaaha when you're here. Kau Desert Trail is near Nanahu which is undeniably worth going to, and camping at Nmakanipaio Campground is always a glorious experience.
Ka Desert is a great spot to stretch your legs a bit.
