Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 60's while Kalapana Trail nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 40's. This is just one of a large number of great outdoors hiking trails in this neighborhood. This hiking trail has only one trailhead, so you'll be backcountry hiking it in and back out. Hawaii has plenty of delightful backcountry hiking trails, and among these are Kalapana Trail in Hawaii County. A visit to Hawaii is not complete without some backpacking. Some parts of Kalapana Trail are   much higher up than other parts of the backpacking trail which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the backpacking trail. Kalapana Trail has a total elevation difference of 2,831 feet which is a higher than average number. The length of this hiking trail is on the longer side having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a perfect great outdoors hiking trail for experienced walkers in nice shape. This walk should take you about 5 days, so better have big backpack to fit all the stuff you need.
