Hawaii hiking trails - Kalapana Trail, Hawaii County       Backcountry backpacking in Hawaii is such a magnificent thing to do. Hiking here in Hawaii is so much fun. There are trails all over Hawaii; one of them being Kalapana Trail in Hawaii County. Kalapana Trail has only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out hike. Relatively far from Hilo you discover Kalapana Trail, but hiking it is always cool. This backcountry hike should take you about 5 days, so it's an outstanding thing if your backpack is big enough to do the job. When was the last time you got out in the wilderness a bit? With its 35.4 miles of walking distance; it's a long great outdoors hiking trail. This backpacking trail is a very long backpacking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes this a very tough backpacking trail for advanced walkers looking for a magnificent challenge. At Kalapana Trail through the months of summer highs are in the 60's while night lows are commonly in the 50's. Throughout the   winter highs are in the 60's, and night lows through the wintertime for Kalapana Trail tend to be in the 40's. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. All the water falling down from the sky makes Kalapana Trail a wet site; March is the wettest month with most rain while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Keep in mind that this is a long great outdoors trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. Briefly about the general area: If time allows, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a national park worth visiting, and camping is available at Nmakanipaio Campground. Kahele is a brilliant spot to stop at in the vicinity of Kalapana Trail. Not far from Kalapana Trail you can enjoy the trees of Naulu Forest, and a visit to Ka Desert revives the soul. Hit the beach if you want, Kamokuna is practically right here, and taking a little tour to nearby Ka Lae Apuki is a great idea.
