days, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed. There are two trailheads to chose from, one in each end, so backcountry hiking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back.

Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Nmakanipaio Campground is a pleasant spot for that, and during your tour here you'll meet some folks from Hilo for sure. Upper Waikea Forest Reserve is a fine forest neighborhood near Hilo Trail, and don't miss out on a spree to Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park while you're here.
Hopukani Springs is an inspiring place to go to during your stay. A short tour to Waterhole Spring is always worthwhile, and if you're here, you might as well stop at Waiaama Gulch.
