rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. Halemaumau Trail is a normal length hiking trail with very little uphill walking involved which makes this a very tough backpacking and hiking trail for advanced trekkers
looking for a good challenge. Summertime highs at Halemaumau Trail usually tend to be in the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 60's; overnight lows during the winter for Halemaumau Trail tend to be in the 40's.
Halemaumau Trail is a great outdoors hiking trail pretty far from Hilo, but there's good natural loveliness waiting here for you along it. This is not a very long hiking trail but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens.
Briefly about
the general area: You'll meet a lot of people from Hilo here. Halemaumau Trail is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Nmakanipaio Campground is a tremendous local campground, and stopping by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet.
