Hawaii hiking trails - Castle Trail, Honolulu County       Castle Trail is a great outdoors trail relatively far from Honolulu, but it is a really good great outdoors trail. There are plenty of great outdoors trails in Hawaii; each one of them has its own character. Backcountry trekking here in Hawaii is the fine thing to do. With its 7.6 miles of walking distance it's an average length wilderness trail. The length of this backpacking and hiking trail is about average with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this great outdoors hiking trail great for hard core backpackers looking for adventure.     The number of great outdoors hiking trails in this area is not very high. Different parts of this wilderness trail are at very different elevations which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the wilderness trail. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Castle Trail is a wet site that gets a great deal of rain; November is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is August. In Hawaii you never run out of outdoors fun. There is only one trailhead, so you'll be trekking it in and back out. Backpacking trails for backcountry backpacking, and backpacking can be found all over Hawaii, and Castle Trail in Honolulu County is one of them. Castle Trail is quite long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. The time needed for this walk is roughly 6.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Briefly about the general area: If you came to camp Honolulu Koa Kampground is a pleasant location to do that. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. One of the best things about Castle Trail is its proximity to Kapaka Beach, and there's a magnificent forest called Hauula Forest Reserve. A journey to nearby Kapaeleele Point is very relaxing, and don't leave Castle Trail without first paying a visit to Sacred Falls. Here at Castle Trail you'll most likely meet some folks from Honolulu; some of the water nearby flows, like Punaluu Stream. Be careful coming to Castle Trail, you might not ever want to go back home again. Beaches are perfect; and Kaluanui Beach in the neighborhood of Castle Trail is no exception; needless to say, A visit to Punaiki Gulch is always fun. Kaluanui Stream is a tremendous place to stop by It's always good to visit Waihoi Springs.
