California hiking trails - West Point Trail, Marin County

   
  Backpacking here in California is an outstanding idea. Alright, enough of spending all this time inside a building, time to get out, and West Point Trail in Marin County, California is a glorious location for getting out. Wilderness trails are pleasant and plentiful in California, and one of these is West Point Trail in Marin County. West Point Trail is a long drive away from San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, but it's one of those locations where hiking is great. West Point Trail is 2 miles long it's a shorter type hike. Even though this is not a very long
    backcountry trail it's always good to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. This part of California is always a joy to take a look at during backcountry hiking season. The total elevation difference for West Point Trail is 1,740 feet which is an average
number. Each one of the many backpacking trails of California has its own unique beauty. Different parts of this backcountry hiking trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. West Point Trail is a two ended great outdoors trail with two trailheads, so if you can get a ride from someone, you can walk it just one way. This backcountry trail sometimes gets very dry, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out.  
The warmest time of the year at West Point Trail comes with high temperatures in the 80's while nighttime lows are commonly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are commonly in the 50's while West Point Trail nighttime low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 30's. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. You should count on this backcountry walk taking about 2 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. A lot of rainfall falls at West Point Trail; throughout January this neighborhood sees the most rain; July on the other hand is the driest. This backpacking and hiking trail is on the short side with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this backpacking and hiking trail great for the average hiker looking for an enjoyable adventure. This is just one of a large number of backpacking and hiking trails in this vicinity.

Briefly about the general area:
Bootjack Creek is a stream that you may encounter while you're here; not far from here you can enjoy the trees of Cathedral Grove. Haypress Campground is a great campground nearby, and Muir Woods National Monument is a very wonderful spot to stop by.
All the outdoors fun stuff next to West Point Trail will keep you coming back over and over. East Fork Fern Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth a visit, and Cascade Dam is a wonderful place. If you came for an overnight stay Laurel Dell Campground is a good spot to camp, and a day at stunning Red Rock Beach next to West Point Trail is a great thing to do. A pleasant trip to Van Wyck Meadow is a great way to spend an afternoon, and you can spend the day on the beach at Muir Beach.
