This wilderness hiking trail has two trailheads which means you have the option of trekking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. This wilderness hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 2,062 feet, and that is about average. The time needed for this trek is roughly 4.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Different parts of Third Divide Trail are at very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. This backpacking trail sometimes gets very dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. With its 5 miles of walking distance it's a mid length backcountry walk. Even though this is not a very long backpacking trail it's always fine to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen.
