California hiking trails - San Juan Trail, Santa Ana Mountains, Orange County

   
  You can't spend all your time indoors you need to get out once in a while, and San Juan Trail in Orange County, California is a great choice. Every single California wilderness hiking trail is different from the others. California has plenty of tremendous wilderness hiking trails, and one of those is San Juan Trail in Orange County. Relatively far from Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana you come across San Juan Trail, but when you trek it you're always having a great time. Some parts of San Juan Trail are much higher up than other parts of the hiking trail
    which of course means you need to be prepared for different conditions on different parts of the hiking trail. San Juan Trail is 11 miles long; it's a long hiking trail. California is a good outdoors state. This backcountry hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 2,482
feet which is about average. This trek should take you about 1.5 days, so better have big backpack to fit all the stuff you need. Summertime at San Juan Trail comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are usually in the 60's, and during the dark hours in the winter at San Juan Trail temperatures sink to the 40's. Great outdoors trails like this one here in the Santa Ana Mountains are the best way to enjoy these summits. This is a long hiking trail, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies.  
Here in the tremendous state of California backcountry trekking is the tremendous thing to do. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in place. There are two trailheads to chose from, one in each end which means you have the option of backcountry trekking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. This is just one of a large number of backcountry trails in this neighborhood. San Juan Trail is a backcountry trail of perfect length with an average amount of climbing distance which makes it a nice backcountry trail for experienced walkers in good shape. This region does get very dry sometimes, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. San Juan Trail is a location that is rather dried out generally; January is the wettest month with most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Briefly about the general area:
So much cool stuff to do in the Santa Ana Mountains, not sufficient time. Oak Flats is a picturesque place any time of year; whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Santa Margarita River. A pleasant spree to Verdugo Potrero is a magnificent way to spend an afternoon; Chiquito Spring is a pretty spot to explore while you're at San Juan Trail.
While staying at San Juan Trail you could always explore Hot Spring Canyon, and a short visit to Crow Spring is always worthwhile. Be careful coming to San Juan Trail, you might not ever wanna go back home again. San Juan Trail is a great place to visit for more than one day, Falcon Campground is a great place to camp nearby, and Lower San Juan Campground is a splendid campground nearby.
